Travel Opportunity to Nepal

10 years ago today, I was in the middle of a life changing experience in the mountains of the Himalayas at the Salleri Girl’s Hostel. I was there as the final part of my practical Master’s Degree in Social Change. I lived and worked with the girls on leadership and empowerment training from January until May when I left early due to the devastating earthquake that impacted the entire country. My time there was so precious. As it often is, you set off on service trips to do as much good as you can do in a short time but end up being far more impacted yourself. Nepal lodged itself in my heart and soul on that trip and has continued to impact me throughout the last decade. Through the power of technology, with Facebook coming online for many of my bahini’s (sisters) after I left, I was able to keep in touch with many of them, cheering them on from afar and kept in close contact with the Small World staff who also became like family. When Karma asked me to take this roll on last year, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I wanted to do this. It felt like coming home, to again be part of an organization that changed me so deeply in my experiences working with them. Below is some of my favorite photos of my time there 🙂 This October, I am honored to be going  back to Nepal and am eager to see how much our programs have grown and developed. I am extremely excited to be able to  invite you to join me! This life changing trip to Nepal will allow you to experience first hand the amazing things The Small World is doing. Through our Travel for Change program we will be loosely following the first itinerary on the website called Pikey Peak: click here for more details. Following One Child’s Dream of Becoming a Doctor

Our Girl’s Bachelor Education Initiative  works to help girls achieve their post high school degrees to achieve their dreams. When I first worked with the girls 10 years ago, most of the girls dreams were confined to what they had already seen women in their small villages accomplish; since then their eyes have been opened up to what they can achieve in this world by so many amazing examples they have been exposed too. As our girls break barriers in Nepal, it inspires a new generation to follow their dreams and believe that they can achieve them! Here is one story of a girl’s dream to become a doctor and how she is making that a reality.
